Frequently Asked Questions – Fagradalsfjall Volcano Private Tour

Fagradalsfjall Eruption - Updated July 16, 2025

Eruption status: ONGOING

1 – Is an eruption going on?

Yes. As of July 16, 2025, an eruption has started.

At 01:20, over 130 earthquakes were measured in the Sundhnúkur crater row, according to the Icelandic Met Office. Borehole and fiber optic data show clear signs of magma movement.

Authorities have started evacuations in Grindavík. Police are checking campsites and houses in the area to make sure everyone is safe.

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in conjunction with local authorities, has raised the Civil Protection level to the Emergency Phase due to the increased likelihood of an eruption in Sundhnúkur.

Earthquake activity is located between Stóra-Skógfell and Sýlingarfell, similar to past magma movements.

2 – What happens if my tour is canceled due to an eruption?

If you booked directly with us and your booking reference starts with 2GOIS-XXXXX, you will receive an email with your options.

If you booked through a third-party reseller (such as Viator, GetYourGuide, Expedia, or others) and your reference starts with BR, GYG, or another code, you will receive a notification about the cancellation and refund from them.

We don’t handle payments or refunds for third-party bookings. We can only request a full refund, but the processing is done by the reseller.

3 – Can I reschedule if my tour was canceled due to an eruption?

Yes. As soon as the area reopens, we will give priority to confirmed or canceled bookings.

If your booking was refunded, you may need to pay again when reserving the new date.

4 – How long does a refund take?

  • For direct bookings, it is typically 3–5 days after receiving the cancellation notification.

  • For third-party bookings (Viator, GetYourGuide, etc.), refunds are processed by the reseller. Timing depends on their policies.

5 – How long can an eruption last?

It’s impossible to know in advance. Some eruptions last a few hours, others continue for days or weeks. Each event is unique, and we closely follow official updates.

6 – Can I visit the area during an eruption?

Yes, but only when the police and local authorities confirm that the area is safe and the roads reopen. Once the new safety assessment is complete, it will be possible to visit and enjoy this unique experience again.
